The Rotary Club of South Hilo collaborated with Hilo Community College students on a service project at the Hawaii Island Adult Care Center. This initiative aimed to support elderly and disabled adults through activities like lei making, music, hula, and Bingo, fostering joy and engagement. Students gained hands-on experience and engaged in community service and shared about their various country of origin’s New Year words, symbols and greetings, while Rotary members mentored and promoted volunteerism. The project strengthened ties between the Rotary Club and the college, setting the stage for future collaborations and positively impacting the community. Stories centering around the 80th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing, Sadako Sasaki’s origami peace cranes, and worldwide Peace Pole and peace initiatives were also shared as part of this service project.
