Hilo Medical Center Tour & Luncheon

Art, Elena, Marissa and Dr. Nordling lead us on a tour through the new Family Health Center and Residency Program. Additionally we received an overview and tour of the Hui Pono, the Ornish Lifestyle Medicine Program,  the first and only program that is scientifically proven to slow, stop, and even reverse the progression of heart disease.  This Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation program brings about its life-changing results by helping participants adopt and sustain lifestyle changes in four areas of their lives: what they eat; how active they are; how they respond to stress; and how much love & support they have in their lives. By optimizing these four elements, the program empowers them to minimize their reliance on medications, avoid future surgeries, and most importantly, re-take control of their health.

The program is scientifically proven to:

  1. Reduce the risk of heart-related events
  2. Decrease the frequency and severity of chest discomfort
  3. Lower the likelihood of future surgery
  4. Lessen dependence on medications
  5. Lower cholesterol, improve blood pressure, and bring about weight loss
  6. Increase your capacity for exercise
In conclusion, I think it is safe to say, Rotarians like to pose for pictures with skeletons and mannequins!

Sign Up for the Rescue Tube Project,  June 9th
Please join us for a day of community service on Saturday June 9 from 8 am to 12 pm to replace and repair Rescue Tubes which have been placed at East Hawaii beach parks over the past few years.  Many of the tubes have been either taken or in need of repair.  We will meet at Hilo Bayfront, divide up people and resources, get training, then dispatch from there.  It’ll be a day of Rotary service to our community as well as fun and fellowship working alongside other rotarians.

Support our Hilo Huli Vendors
We want to thank all our vendors that supported the 2018 Hilo Huli.  Let's return the favor and support their businesses as they struggle with a slow down in business due to the lava  in Pahoa and closure of Volcano National Park.  Mahalo!
