At our April 4, 2023, meeting, our featured speaker, shown here, was Lorraine Davis, Chief Operating Officer of the YWCA in Hilo. Lorraine is responsible for the Sexual Assault Support Services Program and the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program at the YWCA and is also past president of the Rotary Club of Hilo Bay. Lorraine spoke of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Child Abuse and Neglect, Victim Rights, and Denim Day which takes place on the last Wednesday of April. This day of action and awareness is an event in which people are encouraged to wear denim to combat victim blaming and educate others about sexual violence. Governor Josh Green has proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Hawaii.
