Tuesday, September 1 Mark Manuel, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Marine Debris Program (NOAA MDP) will discuss the Pacific Islands region, ocean plastic, volunteer efforts, and impact waste management has on our environment.
 
Tuesday, September 8 Stephanie Nagata has been with the Office of Mauna Kea Management for twenty years and has served as director on an interim basis for nearly four years. She will likely talk about the Mauna Kea Comprehensive Management Plan and how her group works to integrate cultural and natural resources in the management of Mauna Kea.
 
Tuesday, September 15 ​​Mattie Mae Larson Founder of Upcycle Hawai'i. Inspired to create an entire product line from exclusively reclaimed and repurposed materials she created Upcycle Hawaii at a farmers market in Winter 2014. Mattie has grown her business into a Production Studio in Hilo and is working hard to pivot Upcycle Hawai'i into the age of e-commerce and continue to educate her community through field trips and speeches (now virtual) and remains an active volunteer for Hawaii Wildlife Fund. Mattie Mae will talk about her work and goals to turn trash into treasure, change how our community looks at solid waste and inspire a greener and more sustainable way of living in Hawai'i.
 
Tuesday, September 22 Doug Adams is the current Chair of the Hawai'i County Charter Commission. Doug will briefly review the 16 questions that will be on the ballot. He has been member of South Hilo Rotary since 2012. He and his wife Deb Lewis live in Hilo. 
 
Tuesday, September 29 Rafael Bergstrom, Executive Director for Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii and longtime volunteer for SCH will discuss plastic pollution issues(and solutions!), our role in stemming the tide of single use disposable items, and tips on how to make change as an individual and the power civic engagement can have in pushing zero waste efforts.
